Technology operations built for RIAs and wealth management firms.

You've built a sophisticated advisory business. BetterOps helps you run the technology behind it with the same discipline - clear ownership, documented controls, managed vendors, and plans that hold up on the day something breaks.

Built exclusively for RIAs and wealth management firms Works alongside your existing IT and vendors Fixed-scope assessment, no long-term commitment Senior practitioners - no junior handoff

Most firms recognize at least three of these.

None of them mean anything is broken. They mean the technology estate grew faster than the structure around it - which is what happens to nearly every firm that has been busy growing an advisory business.

Technology grew without an operating model.

Systems were added one decision at a time, each sensible on its own. No one has stepped back to define how the whole estate should be governed.

Critical processes live in people's heads.

Onboarding a client, provisioning an advisor, closing the quarter - the firm depends on a handful of people remembering how it is done.

Vendor responsibilities are unclear.

Several providers touch your environment. Which one is accountable for backups, identity, or patching is a question no one can answer quickly.

Controls exist, but aren't documented.

You likely have MFA, backups, and endpoint protection. Being able to show what is in place, who approved it, and when it was last reviewed is a different problem.

Microsoft 365 isn't governed strategically.

The tenant accumulated permissions, guest accounts, sharing settings, and licences over time. It runs - but no one is steering it.

Leadership lacks a clear view of technology risk.

You can describe your investment risk precisely. Describing your operational technology risk with the same precision is much harder.

Continuity plans don't match reality.

The business continuity document describes an environment that has since changed. It has not been tested against the systems you actually run today.

Technology ownership is fragmented.

Decisions get made by whoever is closest to the problem. There is no single place where technology direction is set and recorded.

How we think about this

A firm of fifteen people running $800 million does not need an enterprise IT department. It does need someone to answer, clearly and in writing, a specific set of questions: what systems the business depends on, who is accountable for each one, which controls are genuinely in place, what is documented, and what happens when something fails. Most firms this size have never had anyone whose job it was to answer those questions.

That is the work. Not replacing your IT provider, not selling you a security product, and not producing a document that sits unread in a shared drive. Understanding the environment as it actually is, improving what matters most, documenting it so the firm no longer depends on memory, and keeping it current as the business changes.

We use automation and AI where they meaningfully improve an operation - but technology follows the operating model, not the other way around. A well-run manual process beats an automated version of a process nobody understands.

The CORE Framework

The CORE Technology & Operations Assessment

CORE is our assessment and delivery methodology. It examines your firm across four dimensions, identifies the gaps that carry real consequence, and produces a prioritized roadmap you can act on - with or without us.

Controls

Cybersecurity readiness, identity and access, endpoint and email protection, data protection. What is actually in place - and what only looks like it is.

Ownership

Technology governance, vendor and third-party responsibilities, decision rights. Who owns each system, each risk, and each renewal.

Resilience

Business continuity, backup and recovery, incident readiness. What happens on the day a system, a vendor, or a person is unavailable.

Evidence

Documentation, policies, records, and operational workflows. Whether your firm can demonstrate how it operates without reconstructing it from memory.

How it works

  1. Discovery call

Thirty minutes. We ask about your firm, your current technology arrangement, and what prompted you to look. If we are not the right fit, we say so on the call.

  2. CORE Assessment

A fixed-scope review across Controls, Ownership, Resilience, and Evidence. Structured interviews, a review of your environment and vendor arrangements, and no disruption to your team.

  3. Findings & roadmap

A written assessment and a prioritized roadmap presented to leadership - what to address, in what order, what it takes, and what happens if you defer it.

  4. Execute, or don't

The roadmap is yours either way. Run it with your existing providers, or engage BetterOps to hold the plan and drive it forward with you.

Start with a 30-minute conversation.

We'll tell you whether a CORE Assessment is the right next step for your firm - or whether it isn't.

What we do after the assessment

The roadmap is only useful if it gets executed. Firms that continue with BetterOps engage us across some combination of these six areas - scoped to what their roadmap actually calls for.

Frequently asked questions

Who does BetterOps work with?
Independent RIAs and wealth management firms, typically between 5 and 50 employees - large enough that technology and operational risk matter, small enough that there is no dedicated internal technology or security organization.
Are you an IT provider or a help desk?
No. We are a technology operations and operational-readiness partner. We work at the level above day-to-day support: how your technology is governed, who owns what, which controls exist, what is documented, and where the real operational risk sits. We work alongside your existing IT provider rather than replacing them.
Do you handle compliance?
We are not a law firm, a compliance consultancy, or an auditor, and we do not provide legal or regulatory advice. What we do is help your firm become better organized, better documented, and more resilient - which is usually what makes compliance conversations easier. Where a regulatory question is genuinely legal, we will tell you and work with your compliance counsel or consultant.
What is the CORE Assessment?
A structured, fixed-scope review of your firm's technology and operational environment across four dimensions - Controls, Ownership, Resilience, and Evidence. It produces a clear picture of your current state and a prioritized roadmap of what to fix, in what order, and why.
What does an engagement look like after the assessment?
Entirely your choice. Some firms take the roadmap and execute it with their existing providers. Others ask us to run the roadmap with them on an ongoing basis. The assessment is deliberately standalone - it has value whether or not you continue with us.
Do we have to replace our current IT vendor?
Almost never. Most firms we talk to have a capable IT provider who was hired to keep things running, not to govern the technology estate. Those are different jobs. We define the operating model, clarify ownership, and hold the roadmap; your provider keeps doing what they do well.
Do you use AI and automation?
Where it meaningfully improves an operation, yes. But technology follows the operating model, not the other way around. We do not lead with tooling, and we will not automate a process that should be redesigned or eliminated first.
How do we start?
A 30-minute call. We will ask about your firm, your current technology arrangement, and what prompted you to look. If a CORE Assessment is not the right next step, we will say so.
